Even as They Fade | Sakura Momma

Sakura Momma has spent several years exploring the material, gestural and ritual dimensions of embroidery. In this installation, a transparent organza veil embroidered with glass beads is gradually undone by a mechanical device that slowly withdraws the thread over the course of the installation. In unravelling what was sewn by hand, the artist makes perceptible the invisible gestures accumulated within each stitch.

Wolfgang Tillmans is in residence at the Cité internationale des arts as part of the Institut français x Cité internationale des arts programme, in partnership with the Beaux-Arts de Paris, where he was a visiting professor in 2025–2026. ⁠

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts runs a residency programme entitled 2—12, open to all artistic disciplines through a call for applications. The 2026-2027 edition brings together 73 fellows, representing 43 nationalities, including 47 women, 21 men and 5 non-binary individuals.
