Since 1986, the city of Reykjavík and the Cité internationale des arts have been running a residency programme for Icelandic artists. It is open to all artistic disciplines and enables artists to take up residencies at the Cité for a period of 2 months.

Reykjavík is a city of approximately 200,000 residents that is known for its vibrant cultural life, which includes music, literature and other forms of art. Reykjavík is a UNESCO City of Literature and a formal member of the Music Cities Network. The city dedicates a significant amount of its funds towards arts and culture, and both runs and funds various cultural institutions in all art forms.
