The Musée du Louvre and the Cité internationale des arts are joining forces for an experimental project. This initiative explores the relationship between heritage and contemporary creation, between artworks and artistic research and between the durability and ephemerality of practices. By offering a space to those who have been absent, it highlights the role of presence within the institution and the art world, while also examining the particular form of presence unique to a work of art.
This event marks the 60th anniversary of the Cité internationale des arts and is part of the Louvre’s policy of reinterpreting its collections and venues through the eyes of contemporary figures. Drawing inspiration from the multiple cultures present within the museum, the guest artists, Mirkan Deniz, NOMASMETAFORAS, Chloé Quenum, Samuel Suffren and Saul Williams (all current or former Cité residents) will produce ephemeral, site-specific works in dialogue with the Louvre’s heritage and narratives. This shared legacy will inspire them, affirming their presence both at the Cité internationale des arts and at the Louvre.
An evening of Open Studios ‘curated by’ entitled Sous un toit (curated by Donatien Grau, Nicolas Marbeau and Gautier Verbeke) will take place on 1 October from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Cité internationale des arts. It will offer the public a free tour of 6 to 10 studios of artists of all disciplines currently in residence at the Marais site.
