The Institut Français d’Indonésie (IFI), Fundação Oriente and the Cité internationale des arts, an artist residency center in Paris, are pleased to announce their collaboration and the launch of a creative and research residency program for Timorese artists from all disciplines. The aim of this program is to encourage and facilitate the mobility of artists from Timor-Leste and to expand their professional and artistic networks.
This initiative is co-designed by the Cité internationale des arts (Paris), Fundação Oriente, and the Institut Français d’Indonésie. The partners are committed to supporting each laureate’s project by providing them with privileged mentorship, networking opportunities, and a fully-funded three-month residency in Paris.

The residency

As part of the programme, the laureates will benefit from:

• Mentorship, networking opportunities, and meetings organized by the program’s partners.

• A live-in studio at the Cité internationale des arts in the Marais district, which consists of a single furnished space for both living and working.

• A monthly living stipend of €850 net of taxes.

• Coverage of international round-trip travel to and from Paris airports, as well as travel insurance and visa fees.

• A €200 arrival allowance upon arrival in Paris, pending the first stipend payment, which will be directly deposited into the artist’s bank account each month

 

Transport of works or experimental materials will not be covered. A final report of the experience will be required at the end of the residency.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

The Timor-Leste Residency Programme is open to Timorese artists-researchers of all ages.

Applicants must:

• Have an artistic or research practice in the fields of visual and performance arts, music and sound research, live performance, writing, design, architecture-urbanism, curatorial practice, or art criticism

• Be able to demonstrate at least 5 years of professional artistic experience

• Be capable of communicating and engaging in either English or French

 

Applications will be reviewed by a jury composed of representatives from the programme partners and qualified individuals. In addition to evaluating the candidates’ professional backgrounds, the jury will focus on the artistic quality of the project, the value added by this residency in Paris, at the Cité internationale des arts, and the proposed work plan as well as any established contacts or partnerships in relation to the residency project.

How to Apply?

Applications for the Cité internationale des arts commissions are submitted through the online form.

The application form must be fully completed and requires:

• A detailed curriculum vitae (4 pages maximum), in French or English ;

• An artistic portfolio, in French or English, with artwork visuals and full captions (maximum 15 pages), with video or audio links if applicable (mp3, avi) ;

• A statement of intent explaining the applicant’s research project, motivations, and their interest in the residency programme. Artists should present the reasons why their work necessitates this residency in Paris and at the Cité Internationale des Arts, from an artistic, career, and professional networking perspective (maximum 3 pages).

 

Residency Conditions

The laureates will be accommodated in live-in-studios located on the Marais site of the Cité internationale des arts. With a surface area ranging from 25 to 40m², the live-in-studios are designed to combine creative work and daily life. They consist of a workroom, kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping area. A live-in-studio can accommodate up to two adults and one child up to 10 years old. Additional fees will be charged for accompanying persons.

 

Unfortunately, the proposed live-in-studios do not meet current accessibility standards for people with disabilities, but efforts are being made to address this for the future.
