Cité 237

Presentation

The Institut français du Cameroun and the Cité internationale des arts are running the Cité 237 / Institut Français du Cameroun x Cité internationale des arts creative and research residency programme for Cameroonian artists, working and living in Cameroon. The aim of this programme is to encourage and facilitate the mobilitý of Cameroonian artists and expand their professional and artistic network.

The partners are committed to supporting the trajectory of each selected artist by offering professional support, dedicated moments of exchange, and a fully funded three-month residency in Paris.

The residency programme will host and support four laureates.

 

They will receive:

  • Professional support, meetings and networking opportunities organised by the partners ;
  • A live-in studio (combined living and working space) at the Cité internationale des arts ;
  • A monthly living allowance of €1,000 ;
  • A €1,000 research and creation grant for the duration of the residency ;
  • Coverage of round-trip international travel to and from Paris airports, as well as visa fees.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

To apply, candidates must:

  • Be of Cameroonian nationality, working and residing in Cameroon ;
  • Develop a professional practice in one of the four eligible disciplines: writing, printmaking, photography or curatorial practice ;
  • Have a minimum of five years of professional experience.

 

Collective applications are not eligible.

Applications will be reviewed by a jury composed of representatives from the programme’s partner institutions.

 

In addition to assessing each artist’s professional background, the jury will pay close attention to:

  • The artistic quality and coherence of the proposed research project ;
  • The relevance of a residency period in France and at the Cité internationale des arts ;
  • The proposed research and work plan, and, where relevant, the contacts already established for the project’s development.

Once your application has been finalised, you will not be able to modify it. Please complete this form as thoroughly as possible. Telephone enquiries will not be answered.

 

You will need to upload the following documents:

  • A detailed curriculum vitae (maximum 4 pages), in French or English;
  • An artistic or professional portfolio, in French or English, including images of works, text excerpts, project materials with full captions (maximum 15 pages), and video or audio links where applicable;
  • A statement of intent (maximum 3 pages), in French or English, outlining the applicant’s motivations, the relevance of the programme to their trajectory and artistic research, and the reasons why a residency in Paris and at the Cité internationale des arts is essential.

Terms and conditions of residency

The laureates will be accommodated in live-in-studios located on the Marais site of the Cité internationale des arts. With a surface area ranging from 25 to 40m², the live-in-studios are designed to combine creative work and daily life. They consist of a workroom, kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping area. A live-in-studio can accommodate up to two adults and one child up to 10 years old. Additional fees will be charged for accompanying persons.

Unfortunately, the proposed live-in-studios do not meet current accessibility standards for people with disabilities, but efforts are being made to address this for the future.
