The partner of this programme :
Operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and having become a constituent unit with legal personality within Université Côte d’Azur in 2020, the Villa Arson was conceived in the 1960s by André Malraux, then Minister for Cultural Affairs, as part of a wide-ranging programme of cultural decentralisation.
Opened in 1972, the Villa Arson was conceived from the outset as a highly innovative institution fulfilling several essential and complementary functions in support of creative endeavour: teaching, research, experimentation, production, dissemination, promotion and support.
The uniqueness of the Villa Arson also lies in the combination of its various areas of activity (the school, the art centre, the library, research and artist residencies), whose activities intertwine and enrich one another’s experiences.
The school welcomes around 230 students and offers a single Arts department covering a broad spectrum of disciplines and practices. The art centre runs an exhibition programme with a strong international focus, prioritising emerging artists. In line with its ambition to engage with the wider world, Villa Arson also hosts artists in residence throughout the year, helping to connect students with the diverse creative scenes and enrich their artistic projects.
