The Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU) and the Cité internationale des arts in Paris are pleased to announce an open call for two fully funded artistic and research residencies in 2027.

The programme is intended for artists and researchers employed by AVU who seek to develop a research-based artistic or theoretical project within the international environment of the Cité internationale des arts. The residency aims to support sustained artistic and research development through international exchange and engagement with the context of Paris.

Each selected resident will undertake a three-month residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris.

The residency includes:

  • Access to professional networking and public programme opportunities;
  • A live-in studio on the Marais site of the Cité internationale des arts;
  • A monthly stipend of €1,000;
  • Coverage of travel costs Prague–Paris–Prague;
  • Health and liability insurance coverage.

Eligibility criteria

Candidates must:

  • Be employed by AVU in an academic position with an employment contract of at least 0.5 FTE valid throughout the residency period;
  • Demonstrate an active creative practice.

Applications will be reviewed by a jury composed of three representatives of AVU and two experts appointed by the Cité internationale des arts.
In addition to evaluating the professional background of the applicants, the jury will pay special attention to:

  • The clarity and coherence of the portfolio and proposed project;
  • The relevance of the residency at the Cité internationale des arts to the applicants’ proposed project;
  • The feasibility and methodological approach of the proposed project, including any existing contacts or partnerships relevant to its development.

Collective applications are not eligible.

How to Apply?

All applications are to be submitted online.

 

To submit your application, you need a Google account. If you don’t have one, you can create one HERE.

 

Once your application has been finalised, you will not be able to modify it. Please complete this form as thoroughly as possible. Telephone enquiries will not be answered.

 

You will need to upload the following documents:

 

  • A detailed curriculum vitae (maximum 4 pages), in English;
  • An artistic or curatorial portfolio in English, including full-captioned visuals (up to 15 pages), with links to videos or representative audio files where relevant (mp3, avi);
  • A motivation statement, outlining the applicant’s interest in the residency programme. This statement should clearly explain why the applicant’s current research or practice would benefit from a residency in Paris and at the Cité internationale des arts, from an artistic, professional, and networking perspective (maximum 3 pages);
  • A professional support statement, describing the applicant’s expectations regarding the residency framework and the forms of professional support they wish to engage with.
  • Applicants are invited to briefly explain:
    – How they envision working with dedicated professionals (curators, researchers, or practitioners) based in Paris and connected to their research topic;
    – How this dialogue would inform and support their ongoing research;
    – And, if applicable, to name specific professionals they would like to work with.

Terms and conditions of the residency

The laureates will be accommodated in live-in-studios located on the Marais site of the Cité internationale des arts. With a surface area ranging from 25 to 40m², the live-in-studios are designed to combine creative work and daily life. They consist of a workroom, kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping area. A live-in-studio can accommodate up to two adults and one child up to 10 years old. Additional fees will be charged for accompanying persons.

Unfortunately, the proposed live-in-studios do not meet current accessibility standards for people with disabilities, but efforts are being made to address this for the future.
