Presentation

The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in France and the Cité internationale des arts, with the support of Banco de Reservas de la República Dominicana, Banco Múltiple, have jointly developed a research residency programme for Dominican visual artists. The aim of this programme is to encourage and facilitate the mobility of Dominican artists and to expand their professional and artistic networks.

Following this call for applications and a meeting of a panel of professionals from the arts and culture sector, two three-month residencies are being offered in 2027, across two periods.

One residency from January 5 to March 26, 2027
One residency from April 2 to June 28, 2027

The programme includes:

Support, opportunities for meetings and networking organised by the residency programme’s partners, and the chance to present their research during the Cité internationale des arts’ weekly open studios;
A live-in studio on the Marais site of the Cité internationale des arts, comprising a single furnished space for both work and living;
A monthly living allowance of 1,000 euros net of tax.
Coverage of return international travel in economy class to Paris airports, as well as travel and health insurance costs. Costs relating to passports, visas and ticket changes will not be covered.

The laureates will be required to make themselves available throughout the residency period so that they can engage fully with the programme’s activities and submit a report at the end of the programme, detailing the activities carried out and the creative process undertaken (in both visual and written form).

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Candidates must:

Be a Dominican national and have been a resident in the Dominican Republic for at least two years at the time of the call for applications.
Be a visual artist (whose practice falls within the fields of painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video art, digital art, performance art, or a cross-disciplinary practice).
Be able to communicate in English or French in a professional context.
Have at least three years’ professional experience.

Group applications are not eligible.

There is no age limit.
Artists who have previously held a residency at the Cité internationale des arts are not eligible.

Applications will be assessed by a multidisciplinary jury comprising representatives of the programme’s partners and invited qualified experts. In addition to evaluating the candidates’ professional backgrounds, the jury members will pay particular attention to:

The quality and originality of the artistic practice and the proposed project;
The relevance of the residency in Paris to the development of the project or research;
The proposed methodology and working approach;
Existing or potential professional links with the Parisian arts scene.

The jury will endeavour to make a balanced selection, reflecting the diversity of practices, backgrounds and perspectives.

How to apply?

Applications for the Cité internationale des arts commissions are submitted through the online form.

To apply, a Google account is necessary. If you do not have one, please create one here.

The application form must be fully completed and requires:

• A detailed curriculum vitae (4 pages maximum), in French or English ;

• An artistic portfolio, in French or English, with artwork visuals and full captions (maximum 10pages), with video or audio links if applicable (mp3, avi) ;

• A statement of intent explaining :

– the applicant’s research project, motivations, and their interest in the residency programme;
– the project you wish to develop as part of the residency: this involves outlining the working processes or the research you wish to carry out on one or more chosen artistic themes;
– the reasons why this project justifies the need for a residency in Paris, whether in terms of content, contacts or institutions;
– your reasons for wishing to be hosted at the Cité internationale des arts, where you will be part of a community of 300 artists from all disciplines, nationalities and generations.

Conditions of the residency

Artists will be hosted in a live-in studio at the Marais site of the Cité internationale des arts, ranging from 20 to 35m². These spaces are equipped for both living and working and include a workspace, kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping area.

Each live-in studio can accommodate up to two adults and one child under 10 years old. Additional charges apply for accompanying persons.

Please note that, at present, the live-in studios do not meet current accessibility standards for individuals with disabilities. Improvements are underway. For specific accessibility questions, we are available to provide case-by-case support.
