Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Alisa Berger (born 1987 in Makhachkala, Russia) grew up in Lviv, Ukraine, before immigrating to Germany in 1995. Born to Koryo-Saram and Ukrainian Jewish parents, she studied psychology at the University of Hagen and film/art at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. Her 2017 graduation film The Astronauts’ Bodies received nominations including the Max Ophüls Prize and the First Steps Award. After studying Butoh in Tokyo (2018-2022), she created Invisible People at Le Fresnoy, winning the Studio Collector 2023 Prize and the Analix Forever 2023 Prize. Her new installation RAPTURE will premiere at the 75th Berlinale Forum Expanded.

Inspired by her migratory journey, Alisa Berger creates films, performances and installations that explore the body, technology and spirituality. The resulting works are sensory experiences that stimulate collective memories through enigmatic staged arrangements.

She collaborates with Lena Ditte Nissen under the name bergernissen, and co-founded FORTIS FEM FILM.

Curating

Mya Berger is a Moroccan and Swiss curator, artist, and writer with a background in economics, sociology, and cultural studies. Her practice touches upon the poetry and viscerality of research and documentation. Indeed, she employs embroidery, text, and collage to explore the tension residing in discarded photographs. She is also interested in non-didactic approaches to art criticism. She is currently researching the narration surrounding emerging diaspora artists and their creative processes, characterised by a fragmented identity.

Having received diplomas from Amsterdam University College and the Central Saint Martins School of Art, she has collaborated with the Bauhaus Stiftung, the London College of Communication, and FOMU, among others. Her writings have been published by Spector Books, Textur Magazine, and Arts of the Working Class. She lives between Belgium and Morocco.
