Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Camille Bernard (born 1994, Paris) is a Franco-Scottish artist. Following a preparatory art course in the port town of Ullapool in the Scottish Highlands, she gained a deeper understanding of figurative painting and large-scale works, which led her to enrol at the Glasgow School of Art (GSA) in 2012. There, her practice became multidisciplinary, encompassing painting on canvas, video and set design. After graduating in 2016, she was selected to take part in the ‘New Contemporaries’ exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh in 2017, where she was awarded the Fleming-Wyfold Bursary.

Based in Uzerche in Corrèze since 2021, she has set up her studio in a former 16th-century seneschal’s residence, which she shares with other artists and craftspeople; together, they organise cultural and charitable events alongside their individual practices. This immersion in collective experiences, along with the rural setting in which she lives, nourishes both her life and her creative work. The themes of community, transformation and adaptability run through her works and are expressed through emotive and imposing human forms, as well as landscapes that are both tender and unsettling within a narrative universe. Her works now take the form of series of paintings, each building an evolving narrative in response to the previous one.

His work is currently represented by the sissi club gallery (Marseille), and his recent solo and group exhibitions include: FRAC Île-de-France, Paris (2026, 2025); Les Capucins, Embrun (2025); sissi club (2025, 2021); Norito, London (2025); DS Galerie, Paris (2024); CACN, Nîmes (2024); La Tolerie, Clermont-Ferrand (2023); Art-O-Rama, Marseille (2023); Sweet Tooth, Zurich (2023); FAWA, Paris (2023); CAC, Brétigny (2022); Paris Internationale, Paris (2020).
