Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Visual arts

Miguel Soto Karelovic (born 1990) is a Chilean-Croatian artist and educator based in Santiago. His practice encompasses sculpture, installation, writing, and public projects, addressing the masculinity traditionally contained in large-scale public sculpture through themes of fragility, humour, and failure. Drawing on local myths, artisanal techniques and industrial materials, his work concerns political action in a context of migration, transculturation and environmental and material collapse.

Autofiction is embedded in his “gigantic memories”, which combine personal and collected narratives to examine cultural politics and exoticisation in South America. His research-based approach combines craftsmanship and industrial production. He teaches material experimentation and sculptural research, holds a Master’s degree in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art in London, and since 2016 has been represented by Galería Patricia Ready. In 2024, he inaugurated a monumental public sculpture, commissioned following a competition organised by the Chilean Ministry of Public Works.

Visual arts

Adéla Součková is based in Prague and Berlin. Her practice encompasses drawing, natural dyeing on textile, performance, text, sound, and video installation. She creates immersive installations channeling the ineffable tensions between spirituality and politics, alienation and belonging. At this juncture, Součková approaches the landscape through a pre-modern lens to recover basic knowledge overlaid by the power structures imposed during colonialism and industrial modernity. In creating spaces for critical assessment and retelling of western paradigms she invites diverse cosmovisions and challenges traditional notions of ego to address relational crises between humans and ecosystems.

Adéla Součková’s work has been presented at Survival Kit, Riga (2023), Kaunas Biennial, Kaunas (2023); Living Art Museum, Reykjavik (2022); Museum of Applied Arts, Prague (2022); Trafo, Budapest (2021); CCA TRAFO, Szczecin (2020); Kupferstich-Kabinett, State collections of Saxony, Dresden (2019); National Gallery, Prague (2018, 2014); Bozar, Brussels (2017).
