Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

“Elvia could have worked in the family cheese dairy or become a tropical plant specialist, an agricultural engineer, a laboratory biologist, a botanist at the Museum, or whatever. She has become an artist, in other words someone who can be all of these things at the same time, and who is more attracted to the plurality of worlds than to the specialised world of one discipline. Her field is the living, its combined cycles, fermentation, blossoming and decomposition”. (G. Tiberghien, 2019).

Trained as an agro-ecologist and a graduate of the Toulon School of Art, Elvia Teotski is a multi-disciplinary artist-researcher who investigates the transformation of living worlds. She places her attention on the edge of human activity, focusing on fragile and vulnerable states and experimenting with malleable forms. Through sculpture, installation, and video, and with regard to the materiality of her different fields of research, she seeks a way of accounting for unstable states by envisaging the production process as an autonomous organism living in interrelationship with the exhibition spaces, their climatic factors, their occupants and their public, in a practice known as situated.

Invited to take up a residency at the Fundación Casa Proal in Mexico in 2019, she took part in the exhibition Spoiled Waters Spilled at the Ballet National de Marseille for Manifesta13 in 2020. In 2021, she was awarded the Talents contemporains prize by the François Schneider Foundation and the Planète Art Solidaire prize by Artofchange21, and exhibited at La Criée, the contemporary art centre in Rennes, followed by l’Assaut de la Menuiserie in 2022.
