Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

MUSIC

COMPOSITION

Adrien Trybucki, born in 1993, devotes his activity as a composer to acoustic, mixed and electronic music. The obsessive character of his writing can be found in his first opuses, notably “Cinq Visions for orchestra”, which won him the Prix Île de créations in 2014. His works, driven by an impulsive and immutable energy, have been heard in a dozen countries across Europe, America and Asia, as well as on the airwaves of France Musique, the BBC and RTS.

After studying in Toulouse with Bertrand Dubedout and Guy-Olivier Ferla, he obtained a master’s degree at the Conservatoire national supérieur musique et danse de Lyon with Philippe Hurel and Martin Matalon, before joining IRCAM in 2018 to follow the “Cursus de composition et d’informatique musicale”.

Charwei Tsai

Year/s of residence : 2022, Art Explora

Visual arts

Charwei Tsai is interested in spirituality, an interest she manifests through the calligraphic writing of mantras on various, and often living, media: trees, tofu, mushrooms, lotus leaves, etc. In addition to her calligraphic work, Charwei Tsai creates performances as well as documentary and contemplative videos. She is represented by the Mor Charpentier Gallery (Paris).

During her residency at the Cité internationale des arts, the artist will develope son projet Touching the Earth and will create a new issue of her magazine Lovely Daze focusing on art, ecology, technology and science. For the launch of the publication, she will produce a sound performance in collaboration with the musician Stephen O’Malley from Sunn O))) to create a ritual with sounds and vibrations from nature. Her project explores several central questions: how do science and technology help us to reduce our pace? To touch earth? To deconstruct our habit of identifying ourselves as permanent and independent entities?
