Artists in residence
Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Marina Vandra graduated from the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 2015 and from the Royal College of Art in London in 2017. Her practice comprises paintings, prints and pictorial installations. These present abstract, intimate and utopian spaces, blending architectural and organic forms. The vocabularies of the home, the window, the hut and the garden are invoked, without reference to a specific culture, thus tending towards a certain universality of the domestic place.
The homogeneously colored acrylic paintings are flat, matte and smooth. Large formats, on canvas or paper, enter into a relationship with one another to propose ensembles whose status tends towards that of tapestry or décor. A threshold space is suggested, where the frame and the window play an important role in the development of the gaze, between inside and outside, between intimate and social. In this way, Marina Vandra wishes to question the way in which perception, understanding and identification of an environment influence the way we act upon it and interact with one another.
