Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Lisa Waldner

Visual arts

Lisa Waldner is a visual artist working currently between Austria and Greece. Her painting explores color as a spatial and processual force, which becomes a performative carrier of mnemonic engraving and temporal movement. Often derived from site-specific natural substances, it continues to transform naturally, after being applied to different materials, recasting the artwork as a living organism, exposed to time and erosion.  Her abstract images are conceived as process-oriented, space-generating structures, whose earthly layering of material, narrative and textural planes, oscillate between transparency and opacity, projecting outwardly into the exhibition’s space. Her practice unravels through a cooperative and non-hierarchical relationship between the artist and the environment.
