Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Nina Wakeford

2–12

Nina Wakeford works between performance, sound, printmaking, and moving image, as well as the occasional prop and object. She is interested in the unfinished business of past social movements, and the challenges of revisiting the energies that these movements created.

Her work attempts to enact demands through material engagements, and often includes shouting and/or singing or invented slogans.

Nina was the artist co-initiator of the Swiss Pavilion of La Biennale di Venezia 2026, which builds on the archival research on Swiss LGBT lives undertaken for her exhibition Concrete Comeback ⚣⚢ Arms Are For Linking. Nina is Professor of Art at Goldsmiths, University of London. Drawing on her background in Sociology, she was the co-initiator, with Elizabeth Price, of the Artist Citizens Jury.

Lisa Waldner

Visual arts

Lisa Waldner is a visual artist working currently between Austria and Greece. Her painting explores color as a spatial and processual force, which becomes a performative carrier of mnemonic engraving and temporal movement. Often derived from site-specific natural substances, it continues to transform naturally, after being applied to different materials, recasting the artwork as a living organism, exposed to time and erosion.  Her abstract images are conceived as process-oriented, space-generating structures, whose earthly layering of material, narrative and textural planes, oscillate between transparency and opacity, projecting outwardly into the exhibition’s space. Her practice unravels through a cooperative and non-hierarchical relationship between the artist and the environment.
