Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Bárbara Bragato (Brazil, 1993) is a visual artist working with photographic and cinematographic images and writing, based between Brazil and France. Through a slowed-down practice, she manipulates images from various sources – analog, digital, or archival – weaving connections between memory, fiction, and dream. Her work questions distance in its different forms – physical, temporal, bodily, and linguistic.
Having earned a master’s degree in Cinema from Paris 3 Sorbonne-Nouvelle University, in partnership with Stockholm University and Università Ca’ Foscari di Venezia, she explores familial and anonymous memories to reveal traces of collective memory. Her approach, combining image and writing, unveils overlooked universes: lesser existences, fissures between the perceptible and the unknown. These worlds emerge through photographic installations, videos, artist books, and images transformed through ancient processes.
