Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Visual arts

Tim Bruggeman’s practice lies at the intersection of multiple disciplines, including graphic design, photography, and fine arts. He focuses for extended periods on a well-considered (historical) image archives, which he then deconstructs and reinterprets, staging specific viewpoints and fragments within exhibitions and artist publications. He works on two tracks: on one hand, he delves into themes related to the archival material, while on the other, he conducts material tests, pushing (re)production techniques to their limits. New work emerges when these tracks intersect, leading to a mutual presupposition between image and medium.
