Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Visual arts

Nathan Bushiru is a photographic artist born in 1998 in Bukavu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Self-taught, since 2017 he has been developing a documentary and poetic practice rooted in the social, historical and environmental realities of his country. His work is characterised by a particular attention to light, textures and sensitive visual narratives, exploring the links between collective memory and the contemporary gaze.

He has lived in Lubumbashi since 2022, where he continues his artistic research and is actively involved in training and supporting young photographers, notably through the SEMA platform, which he co-founded to encourage the emergence of new talent in the DRC.

Laureat of several international prizes in 2024, including the Congo Basin Conclave (US Embassy) and Climate Capture (Grantham Institute, London), he was also a finalist in the Reality and Resilience competition (European Union / COMSSA). In 2025, he presented his first solo exhibitions and developed collaborations with international institutions such as Inside Out and the University of Antwerp.
