Artists in residence
Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Johann Capgras is a visual artist born in Martinique. His artistic career is rooted in his personal history marked by several trips to the hospital, events that have marked his body and his mind.
These painful medical experiences were then intertwined with an eclectic culture of the image. Transforming and aggregating recovered elements to create new meaningful and symbolic objects to be questioned, which play on attraction and repulsion. It is on these processes that Johann Capgras bases his practice with different solid or fragile materials to produce signifiers of physical, psychological and historical pain.
