Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Christo Casas is a Spanish journalist and anthropologist born in 1991. Author of the novel *El Power Ranger Rosa* (2021) and the essay *Maricas Malas* (2023), he is currently working on a novel about the impact of AIDS during the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.

His projects focus on the reconstruction of queer memory, conceived as a fragmented art form, shaped by social class, origin, urban planning and security policies applied against bodies and communities.

Visual arts

Melissa Cascade was born on Reunion Island in 1995. She moved to Strasbourg in 2003 and obtained her Baccalauréat STD2A (Sciences and Technologies of Design and Applied Arts) in 2013 in Evry-Courcouronnes. During that year, she took part in the Equal opportunities in art and design schools internship. At the end of the internship, Melissa entered in the public preparatory class Les Arcades in Issy-les-Moulineaux, then the École supérieure des beaux-arts de Nantes Métropole in 2015. She then went on to do a residency in Marfa, Texas and obtained her DNSEP in 2019.

“My practice revolves around an internal search, hence the visceral aspect of the forms exhibited. My reflections tend mainly towards the language of form as much as the form of language. I also explore more common or personal themes. My work combines synthesis and aesthetics. I borrow codes that I stage, write the scenario, plot, and color. My approach is an oxymoron. A mix of the pictorial and the verbal, the frontal and the poetic. The principle of the laboratory and the scientist. Drawing and painting for life. A4/Acid/Acrylic/Paillette/Primary/Stylo/Orange.” – Melissa Cascade
