Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Adel Al-Taweel was born in 1995 in the Nuseirat refugee camp in Gaza, Palestine. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from the Higher Institute of Fine Arts at Al-Aqsa University in Gaza. He then continued his studies in France, where he obtained a degree in Art History from the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris as part of the « Hérodote – Histoire de l’art » programme. Since arriving in France in 2024, he has been living in Paris, where he continues to develop his artistic practice. His work explores humanitarian and social issues and draws on archives and memory to document the past and the present, whilst questioning the future. He employs various media, including installation, sculpture, engraving and printmaking techniques, to address contemporary issues, in particular Palestinian identity and the experience of life in refugee camps.
His work also extends into the public sphere, where he explores issues of displacement and migration through an investigation into the concepts of home and belonging. This exploration was notably embodied in an art project carried out in Vallorcine, in the heart of the French Alps, where he sought to understand and analyse the maps redrawn in the wake of wars, as well as to explore their evolution, in an attempt to reimagine the geographical transformations of these territories, thereby extending his interest in spatial and human memory.
Adel Al-Taweel has taken part in numerous group exhibitions at both local and international levels. He has also contributed to research conferences and international workshops alongside artists such as Nicolas Combaud and Hakim Jamain.
Alongside his artistic practice, he has also spoken as a guest lecturer and featured as a key participant in the film Who Is Still Alive, as a natural extension of his artistic and humanitarian commitment.
