Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Literature

Lynda Chouiten is an Algerian novelist, short story writer and poet, author of two novels and a collection of short stories. Le Roman des Pôv’Cheveux (Algiers: El Kalima, 2017) is a social, political, and philosophical allegory which, while recounting the misadventures of four “hair characters” – four hairs – invites us to reflect on the female condition, religious fanaticism, political oppression and the question of Evil.

This novel, a finalist for the Mohammed Dib and L’Escale d’Alger prizes in 2018, was followed by Une Valse (Algiers: Casbah, 2019). More serious than its predecessor, this second novel has as its main character a psychotic seamstress who, despite her illness and a misogynistic environment, manages to qualify for the finals of an international fashion design competition, supposedly held in Vienna. Une Valse wins the Grand Prix Assia Djebar du roman francophone in December 2019.

In March 2022, Lynda Chouiten published her first collection of short stories, Des Rêves à leur portée, with the same publisher. Lynda Chouiten also has to her credit some one hundred poems that have not yet been published.
