Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Curating

A graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie d’Arles, Fannie Escoulen (born in 1978) has been building since the early 2000s a career in the service of photography, its artists and its audiences.

Deputy director of the BAL in Paris between 2007 and 2014, she has since become an independent curator. She has curated the monographic exhibitions of Antoine d’Agata and Stéphane Duroy at the BAL (Paris), Kate Barry at the Rencontres d’Arles, Anne-Marie Filaire at the Mucem (Marseille), Laurence Aëgerter at the Petit Palais (Paris), and Jon Cazenave at the Kutxa Foundation (San Sebastian).

In parallel to her curatorial activities, she regularly collaborates with publishing houses as well as galleries and companies.

In 2020, she was artistic advisor for the HSBC Prize for Photography.

She is currently preparing a monographic exhibition dedicated to the French-Portuguese photographer Sandra Rocha, at the Centre Photographique d’Ile-de-France in Pontault-Combault (April 2021).

The Cité internationale des arts x CNAP residency offered me the possibility of a new page in my work, a necessary resource for the realization of new projects, in this period of trying health crisis.
