Visual arts

Larissa Fassler (b.1975, Vancouver, Canada) has lived and worked in Berlin since 1999. For the past 18 years, Fassler has been creating works of art that document and interrogate the geo-spatial politics of city life. With cartographic paintings and drawings, and architectural sculptures, she creates visualisations of the observable and intangible characteristics of a city, and document the complicated socioeconomic and cultural issues affecting urban space today.

Drawing on the tradition of psychogeography, she maps urban landscapes using her own body. She employs my own subjective systems to survey public spaces by walking their length and breadth, recording her corporeal experiences and spending hundreds of hours collecting detailed observations onsite as well undertaking archival and online research.

She is represented by Galerie Poggi, Paris

Sirine Fattouh was born in 1980, artist and researcher, she lives between Paris, Avignon and Beirut. She studied at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris Cergy (ENSAPC) and at the University of Paris 1 in Plastic Arts and Art Sciences. Through the use of different mediums including video, installation, drawing and sculpture, Fattouh explores her urban, social and political environment.

She is interested in history and questions her past, present and future in their relationship to memory and its flaws. Drawing inspiration from this, she explores the complex relationship she has with her country of origin and the consequences of conflicts and wars on people’s daily lives. Fattouh scrutinizes her urban environment by imposing on herself filmic protocols where space is in perpetual movement as is the turbulent history of her country. Her work also addresses issues of gender and sexual identity and takes on various forms, from drawing to installation to sculpture.

Her work has been exhibited at the MACRO MAXXI Museum (Rome, Italy), Fondation d’Entreprise Ricard (Paris, France), Kaaï Studio (Brussels, Belgium), Beirut Art Center (Beirut, Lebanon), MUCEM (Marseille, France), La Villa Savoye du Corbusier (Poissy, France), Institut du monde arabe (Paris, France), Institut français de Beyrouth (Lebanon), Letitia Gallery (Beirut, Lebanon), Akinci Gallery (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and the Parallel Program of the 3rd Biennale of Contemporary Art of Thessaloniki (Thessaloniki, Greece).

His videos have been exhibited at the Museo di Arte Contemporanea di Roma (Rome, Italy), Aperto lieu d’art, (Montpellier, France), Auditorium du Frac Bretagne (Rennes, France), Institut des Cultures d’Islam (Paris, France), Orient-Institut (Beirut, Lebanon), Centre Pompidou (Metz, France), ZKM (Karlsruhe, Germany), Grand café Contemporary art Center (Saint-Nazaire, France), Gessnerallee (Zürich, Switzerland), Parson’s street front gallery (New York, USA), AVIFF Art Film Festiva (Cannes, France), Edge of Arabia (Brick Lane, London).

Dance

Nicolas Faubert, from his stage name Kryzastyle, thus launches himself in 2009 body and soul into dance. He spends more and more time between Normandy and Paris, where he is introduced to the New Jack Swing and the New School. He explores popping, opens up to hip-hop, house and locking. In the break rooms, he detonates while dancing standing upright; his eyes are still too fragile to hold upside down positions on the floor.

Between 2012 and 2014, he is spotted during the auditions of the musical Robin Hood, which allows him to get a place at the International Academy of Dance in Paris: he trains for two years in dance, singing and acting. Then, he joins the Lax Studio and the association 93 Arts communique / Cie Elolonguè where he meets Lydia Laouxhi, for whom he intervenes, still today, as assistant coach for the association HIKMART.

In 2018, Nicolas is chosen by the video artist Laure Prouvost for her project for the French Pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Art. After being one of the main actors in her short film Deep see blue surrounding you / Vois ce bleu profond te fondre, he performs in the Pavilion during the whole 2019 Biennale.

Today, Nicolas Faubert is project director for the association Heart Street.

Nicolas Faubert defines himself more as a “character” than a dancer. By his crossbreeding Nicolas Faubert wants to gather, by his handicap he wants to raise awareness. The almost total reduction of his sense of sight has allowed him to strengthen the other four senses and to develop a unique sensitivity to music.
