Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Mounir Gouri

Year/s of residence : 2023, Fondation Daniel et Nina Carasso

Visual arts

Mounir Gouri was born in Annaba, Algeria, in 1985. He is one of a young generation of artists concerned by the social, cultural, and political difficulties that young people of his age face on a daily basis. Born in 1985, he spent his childhood and adolescence in the difficult climate of the civil war.

But Gouri Mounir has worked far from this tragedy, but rather in the news and the socio-political and economic realities that are shaking Algerian society. Interested in new media, he uses drawing, performance, video, photography, and sculpture.

In 2019, he was awarded the special jury prize by the Society of Friends of the I.M.A. “Institut du Monde Arabe”. He has exhibited in Germany, France, England, Spain, Algeria and Italy.

Visual arts

Itamar Gov (*1989) is an interdisciplinary artist and curator. Since 2010 he has been living between Berlin, Paris and Bologna, where he studied cinema, history and literature.

Addressing the intricate relations between history, ideology and aesthetics, Gov’s practice focuses on sculptural and spatial installations alongside graphic and video works, and communicates with various forms of personal, collective and institutional memory.

Working with a varied set of visual and theoretical tools, the starting point of his projects is an inquiring scepticism towards cultural traditions, conventions and gestures that are considered self-evident. His works are based on an ongoing research and revolve around the intersection of art and politics, highlighting the strong tension between the known and the supposed and challenging a clear border between facts and falsehoods, memory and imagination. Never providing a full and complete picture, Gov invites viewers to engage with the elements of his work and to become part of an inquisitive process.

Member of the curatorial teams of Documenta 14 (Kassel, Athens), Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin) and Fondazione Adolfo Pini (Milan), in recent years he has been involved in numerous art and film initiatives, exhibitions, festivals, workshops and publications.
