Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

RESH was born in Siloam, on the island of Lifou in New Caledonia.

He works with the Nyan company at the Centre Culturel Jean-Marie Tjibaou, which is his favourite place of residence. The debates surrounding New Caledonia’s independence prompted him to question his own identity and independence. In 2013, the Lifou storytellers’ association lapa lapa ië took him under its wing and gave him a great deal of support as he embarked on his first tours of the island.

Revealed to the public at large by the Pacific Arts Festival in Guam in 2016, he shares the traditions and values of his culture, mixing them with traditional, contemporary and world music sounds, and blending DREHU, his mother tongue, with French.

Transcending borders, each performance goes off the beaten track to speak of the coexistence of tradition and modernity. This duality makes him at once a goblin, a warrior and a citizen of the world who upsets the established rules. The whole is in a perpetual state of metamorphosis. In all humility, he honours Kanak culture and the Oceanian world. He’s an artist who lives and breathes his performances, perpetuating the tradition of oral transmission handed down by his ancestors. His musical universe is varied, the result of his curiosity and encounters. His work is for everyone, and resonates with everyone.

He is currently working on his main character : TROTROYMERESH, and on his show P2R. He has been supported from the outset by Poemart, the Maison de la Nouvelle-Calédonie, the New Caledonian Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Province of the Loyalty Islands.
