Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Visual arts

Ľudmila Hubová Machová (born 1990) graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. She works across painting and its expanded forms, including objects, installations, and experimental sound compositions. Her practice explores the relationship between humans and the environment, with a focus on synanthropic and invasive plant species in urban and post-industrial landscapes. Recent projects include Synanthrope I–II (2024, 2026, Cité internationale des arts), Overlooked Territory (2025, Medium Gallery, Bratislava). By combining natural and artificial materials, she creates a tension between organic and artificial forms. In 2017 and 2018, she was a finalist for the VÚB Painting of The Year by VÚB Bank, Bratislava. She has exhibited in Slovakia and abroad.

Julien Hübsch

Year/s of residence : 2023, 2026, Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg, Cercle artistique de Luxembourg

Visual arts

Julien Hübsch’s work investigates vandalism, collective authorship and the ongoing negotiations between architecture and temporary interactions in the public space. By exporting visual and tactile fragments into the white cube, their artistic qualities, as well as the tension between urban order and disorder, become noticeable. By using different printing and scanning devices he creates visual archives of his surroundings, thus the studio becomes material in and of itself. Art-historical references are being sampled and used as image-making tools as well, thus shifting the timeline of what actually stems from what. Hübsch’s work oscillates between sculpture, painting, object and archive.
