Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Huhina Warren Mahahētoua, a Marquesan sculptor from Hiva Oa in the Marquesas Islands, is the heir to a family tradition passed down by his father, Huhina Norbert Maheatete, himself a sculptor and former instructor at the CJA in Atuona. Introduced from childhood to sculpture, his island’s heritage and traditional knowledge, he was given his first tools at the age of 15. His artistic journey has been enriched by dance, composition, choreography and cultural exchanges across the Pacific. Today, he works to preserve, pass on and develop Tiki art, whilst respecting its history, values and nature. His artistic practice explores memory, identity and the paths of his ancestors.
