Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Gilad Ashery (31, Jerusalem) is an interdisciplinary young artist who focuses mainly on site-specific installation, sculpture, and performance.

Ashery has been living and creating in temporary studios in desolated villages. Through these conditions and his past work as an archeologist, he finds inspiration in nature, the countryside, forests, caves, and the rich (albeit bloody and muddy) human history. This has led him to develop an interest in the temporality of perception, materials, and subjects.

Currently, Gilad is living and working between Paris, Vienna, and Jerusalem and is developing an earth-oriented body of work.
