Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Sunna Kangas (b. 1974, Helsinki) is a conceptual and textile artist and Master of Arts. Since 2000, her work has been shown in more than 130 exhibitions in 18 countries. A central theme of her practice is the human-made environment. Her conceptual works have a strong ecological perspective and draw on everyday life, evolving into social and philosophical reflections.
Kangas has held solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions internationally. She has been a member of artist collectives and curated international group exhibitions. She has also received awards for her artistic achievements.
Kangas is a member of the Artists’ Association MUU and a founding member of the Finnish Association of New Textile Art (UUTE) and Artists O – a society of artists.

INSTALLATION + WRITING

Lydia Kann (United States) is both a writer and visual artist. She creates site-specific installations that incorporate text, sculpture, and drawing. Lydia Kann also writes fiction and memoir.  Her interest is in human resilience in the face of challenges from outside and from within.  How do certain people rise above the experience of war, mental illness, poverty, ethnic and racial hatred, emigration, and outsiderness?  

Lydia Kann is currently working on a graphic novel and a traditional novel exploring the legacy of the Second World War in France on the descendant generations.
