Artists in residence
Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Cinema
After studying law, Yanis Koussim became a filmmaker. He is one of those whom the specialised press in Algeria called “the new wave of Algerian cinema”.
His short films, Khti and Khouya, have been selected and awarded in several major international festivals: Clermont-Ferrand, Locarno, Abu Dhabi, Amiens, Carthage, Fespaco… etc.
In 2012, he was one of the four directors of the experimental web documentary Un été à Alger, which has premiered at the Palais de Tokyo. Algiers by night, his first feature film, was selected in official competition at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam.
From film to film, Yanis Koussim adopts a realistic, raw style, on the borderline between documentary and fiction, whether in his directing or filming, in the image, sound and editing, but also in the writing of these scenarios. He discovered photography and video during the creation process of Algiers by night, during the writing and preparation stages of the whole project.
The Algiers by night project (cities experiment), which Yanis Koussim intends to undertake in several cities, is a hybrid approach between writing, visual arts and multimedia – freely mixing scenario, photos and videos -– and whose first stage will be Paris, during his residency at the Cité internationale des arts.
