Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Aurélia Lüscher

Year/s of residence : 2024, 2–12

Aurélia Lüscher works between Switzerland and France. Trained at the École de la Comédie de Saint-Étienne as an actress, she co-founded the company Le désordre des choses with Guillaume Cayet in 2015, and in 2017, she created the Collectif Marthe with three other actresses.

Through immersive research, she explores the funeral industry, questioning how Western societies care for the deceased. Her research leads to stage writings that blend visual arts and performance. Her practice exists at the intersection of theater and performance, blurring the lines between reality and fiction, and questioning the boundaries between fable and documentary. She collaborates with practitioners and researchers, while integrating her own practice in the visual arts.

Her works address deep themes such as death, care, the invisible, domination, and the denial of the earth, using various mediums: clay, ceramics, writing, physical work, and installation. The performance Les Corps Incorruptibles, created in 2024, combines visual performance and theatrical writing to explore the question of the abandonment of the deceased.
