Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Multidisciplinary artist and cross-feminist activist Jul Maroh tells stories about modern intimacy and its political facets. After studying at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts de St Luc and at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, their comic book Le Bleu est une couleur chaude was published in 2010.

This book received various awards and was adapted to the cinema under the title La Vie d’Adèle (Palme d’Or at Cannes 2013). Jul Maroh then published Skandalon, Brahms, Corps Sonores, and You brought me the ocean. At the same time, they curated the spatial narrative Procession at the CAPC in Bordeaux, and co-founded the feminist collective Bd Egalité.

Their current works are directly inspired by his transgender experience and LGBTQ+ issues: a graphic novel with writer Sabrina Calvo about queer polyamory in a world of fascism, the adaptation of a poem by Mireille Havet, and a series of large-scale portraits on wood evoking trans resilience and the mythological figure of Chiron.
