Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Visual arts

Céleste Mayorga was born in Iximulew, Guatemala, an ancestral territory but also a country that carries the history of a genocide perpetrated from 1960 to 1996, which sought to eradicate their roots and ancestral identity. Yet today, 70% of the population is indigenous, as were their great-grandmother and grandmother. Despite the genocide, they continue to heal their history as their grandmothers taught them, with herbs, fire, ceremony and love.

In the midst of this web of ancestral wisdom, Céleste Mayorga, is a visual artist-photojournalist (performance, installation, video performance), decolonial researcher (sociologist), transpersonal therapist who walks with Mayan cosmovision with the threads that weave her heart; mestiza-q’eqchi, lesbian and community feminist.
