Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Theater

Astrid Mercier is an actress, director and assistant director based in Martinique since 1997.

She has been working as an actress since 2004 with many directors, including Philippe Adrien, Yoshvani Medina, Ricardo Miranda, Ruddy Sylaire, Aliou Cisse, Hassane Kouyate.

Since 2007, she has assisted in the direction of José Exelis, Ruddy Sylaire, Aurélie Dalmat, Patrick Le Mauff, and works regularly with Nelson Rafaell Madel and Hassane Kouyate, notably for her latest creation Congo Jazz Band (text by Mohamed Kacimi), created at the festival les Francophonies – des écritures à la scène de Limoges in September 2020.

She created Dimwazell’ Compagnie in 2015 to promote cultural exchanges between Martinique and elsewhere, and to question, through her singular artistic projects, the world and her contemporaries.

The term “exchange” takes on a very particular meaning here because it means to join, unite and to bring together cultures, words, languages from all horizons and territories to give them a profoundly human and universal meaning.

Astrid Mercier is in residency at Tropiques Atrium, Martinique’s national stage for the 2020-2021 season around the creation and diffusion of the show Gaz, based on a text by Tom Lanoye, a single show that she directs and interprets.

Her residency at the Cité internationale des arts is supported by the Direction des Affaires Culturelles Martinique.
