Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Literature

Maryannick Métro is an author and director from Reunion Island. She writes, interprets and stages tales, myths and life stories from the history of the settlement of Reunion Island. Collaborations have enriched her career with French-speaking artists, historians, writers and creators.

Concerned with the safeguarding of the intangible heritage of orality, she collects testimonies from the elders and solicits their memories to preserve the origins of a people with multiple identities. From these cultures anchored in an oral tradition transmitted from generation to generation, creations with diverse writings, where words are mixed with painting and dance, are born.

As such, It is quite natural that Maryannick Métro’s desire to understand and deepen the emergence of a form that is still little accepted or positively considered, that of oblivion. In residence at the Cité internationale des arts, she develops her writing and creation from the story of two women from different cultures suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
