Artists in residence
Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Literature
Nuril Basri is an Indonesian writer, celebrated for his unique tragicomic storytelling that blends autofiction, bildungsroman, and offbeat narratives. His characters, often eccentric or profoundly lonely, explore queer themes with nuance and depth. His body of work, including Not A Virgin (2017), Maya (2024), and the Grand Prix Du Roman Gay Traduit winner Le Rat d’égout (2023), has been translated into multiple languages including English, French, German, and Malay. Nuril’s journey as a writer is as captivating as his stories. Born into a conservative Islamic community in West Java, Indonesia, and working a wide range of jobs—from mini-market cashier to cruise ship waiter—he draws inspiration from his rich life experiences, injecting humour into the everyday. His work is an act of resistance, a rejection of mainstream narratives, and an expression of his queer identity.
