Artists in residence
Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

In a practice that spans video and installation, Allyson Packer makes artwork that traces our drift through an increasingly free-floating world. Referencing the hallucinatory sensation of living between virtual and physical experience, Packer transforms found imagery into immersive projects that combine sound and shifting imagery. Packer sources visuals from appropriated materials like scanned images or archival webcam footage that evoke the more tangible world we’ve left behind, and then alters them through experimental techniques to produce unpredictable effects. These interventions, made by manipulating digital and physical tools, create mesmerizing visuals that reflect the simultaneous allure and uncertainty of life in a fragmented reality. Rather than seeking coherence, Packer examines disorientation as a defining feature of our post-real world, using it to find surprising moments of meaning in the confusion.
