Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Curating

Akim Pasquet is a French curator, co-founder and director of the art and living space Les Limbes in St Etienne, which welcomes and accompanies individuals, collectives and artists for research and production residencies, and for exhibitions.

Interested in the circulation of affects and energies, from intimacies to ensembles. In 2018 he co-founded Carbone, a biennial of collectives and artist spaces. For each edition, scientific communities and French and international artists’ collectives take place in the city of St Etienne and deploy exhibitions, performances and events that are as many proposals that question the artistic activity, its modes of production, its communities of affection, curation, dissemination, validation, institutionalization and the effort of putting them in critique.

The next edition, planned for 2023, will particularly bring together alternative networks that question the (de)centralization of power and the economies of artist-run initiatives, in order to place their political side, their inscription in society and their commitment to a common good at the center of the debate.

Music

Anthony Pateras is an Australian composer & musician. Active since 1999, his practice spans modern classical, electroacoustics, piano improvisation, experimental rock & film soundtrack.

Aural hallucination & polytemporality are the main foci of his work, creating sonic realities which open musical perception, often through intertwining bespoke electronic materials with idiosyncratic instrumental writing.

Pateras has composed 90+ works, performed throughout Europe, Australia, USA & Aotearoa. He’s released over 50 albums, and played hundreds of concerts either solo or in his numerous bands.

At the Cité he is working on new pieces for Ensemble Dedalus (FR), ONCEIM (FR) and Insub Meta Orchestra (CH), as well as new solo piano material.

Anthony lives & works in Djaara/Castlemaine.
