Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Curating

David Revés (Portugal, 1992) is an independent curator, writer and researcher based between Portugal and Sweden.

His practice blends the fields of art, critical theory and philosophy, with a deep interest in critically questioning the ghostly mechanisms under which the kinetics of history and the ideals of progress have continually led Western societies, and brought about the apparent division between culture and nature. He is the founder of METANOIA, a nomadic project which from 2024 will develop a program of exhibitions and publications around the ecological crisis and speculative languages.

As a curator, he has developed exhibition projects for a number of institutions, including the Frappant Gallery in Germany, the DIDAC Foundation in Spain and, in Portugal, the Culturgest Center, Fidelidade Arte, the Vieira da Silva Foundation, the Municipal Museum of Faro, the House of Jewish History, the Leal Rios Foundation, the UMA LULIK Gallery, Appleton, the Carpintarias São Lázaro Center and others.

He has been chief curator at the Painel Gallery, associate curator at the DIDAC Foundation, and curator at CINENOVA – Interuniversity Film Festival. As a researcher/critic, David has worked with key Portuguese institutions such as the Soares dos Reis National Museum, the BoCA – Biennale of Contemporary Arts, the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art and the Oliva Art Center.

Finally, in 2022, he organized the Towards the Planetary residency program at The Alfaia Association, in Loulé in Portugal’s southernmost region, bringing together artists, craftspeople, curators and authors on the themes of nature, culture, technology and the environment.

VISUAL ARTS

Born in Madrid in 1993, Mateo Revillo left Spain in 2011 for Paris, then moved to Oxford the following year where he studied Fine Arts. He returns to live in Paris in 2016.

His works are conceived as landscapes. He works particularly in painting, also focusing on different forms of spatial organization, such as architecture and installation. Whether through paintings, assemblies or territorial interventions, it is a question of constituting a unity of the space in which the work is inserted.

In this way, he develops a new grammar of the landscape between painting and architecture, restoring the ambiguous continuity between the image and its place. His work in painting is an organic variation in the space of geometric forms: they are unfoldable pieces seeking the integration of space into the work, like pieces of frescoes belonging to a large ruined ensemble. A ruin to imagine.
