Dance

Inka Romaní was born in 1992 in Valencia, Spain. She is a choreographer whose work weaves movement and artistic research together through an interdisciplinary approach. Her practice explores the intersection of tradition, folklore, and contemporary dance, examining notions of identity, community, and the tensions between past and present through embodied performances.

Her work has been showcased in various contexts, including Festival Dansa Valencia, La Casa Encendida, Centre Cívic Barceloneta, Conde Duque, Teatro Rialto, Teatro El Musical, Centro de Cultura Contemporánea del Carmen, Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno, Festival 10 Sentidos, and La Mutant.

During her residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, Inka continues her research into embodied memory and documentary practices. Her project is part of broader discussions on historical trauma and cultural identity in post-dictatorial.

“My practice attempts to create a parenthesis, a breath or a freeze frame. The gesture, the repetition, the collection, the link, the meticulousness, the imprint participates in this time of pause where I invite to re-evaluate the everyday. I translate by “leaving for dead” fragments of the world that evolve as a counterpoint to a frenzy in which we are inscribed despite ourselves.

Faced with the progressive saturation of our universe by images, with the increasing mediation of our social relations by images and visual technologies, my approach is driven by the desire to draw attention to what we do not notice or what escapes us in our daily life. What habituation has derealized, my research aims at revealing it, and it is by taking into account the evanescent, the almost futile that I undertake to pronounce the fascinating existence of things.

Space and time are essential data in my work. My productions question the human condition and the fragile barrier oscillating between absence and presence, between the visible and the invisible.”
