Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Born in 1977 in Ambunti, Papua New Guinea, Agatoak lives and works in Papua New Guinea.

Agatoak Ronny is the second son of Raymond Kowspi Marek. At a very early age, he became acquainted with the artistic and traditional practices of his father and brother, and began working on his own in 2002.

Having experienced urban life in Lae (capital of the province of Morobe in Papua New Guinea) (1996-1998), since his return to Ambunti he has pursued a pictorial approach that is strongly influenced by modernity. He also helps out with the family tourist agency. In 2001, he created a fresco for the official opening of the Ambunti Tresory House, Ambunti’s renowned cultural centre.

He creates shapes and motifs in the style of the Ancients, while adding more contemporary elements. In recent years, Agatoak has explored themes linked to the changes and challenges facing contemporary societies, such as the loss of links with nature.

The works of Raymond Kowspi Marek, Agatoak Ronny Kowspi and Robin Chiphowka Kowspi can be found in public collections such as the Musée du Quai Branly and the FRAC Picardie, as well as in the Francès collection since 2018.

Caio Rosa, born in 1992 in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro, is a visual artist, photographer and researcher currently based in São Paulo.

Caio’s artistic approach transcends the boundaries of photography, embracing a multidisciplinary perspective that includes music, sculpture, video and installation. His research seeks to challenge established paradigms by devising innovative methodologies to access and shape intangible realities.

In recent years, Caio has dedicated himself to using photography as a means of provoking deep reflections on the image and representation of the body and black culture. His images bring a mix of visual experiments within the analogue process, applying textures and symbolic elements, creating visual narratives that explore themes such as identity and memory. In addition to his work as a photographer, Caio is the creator and presenter of the program “Rio Doce” on Rádio NTS (London).

For the last 4 years, he has shared his passion for traditional and contemporary Afro-diasporic music, exploring its roots and cultural manifestations around the world.
