Basketry workshop by Jayne Christian, organized as part of the exhibition 60 Years From Now: Relaying, co-curated by Ana Janevski, curator, and Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez, Arts and Culture Programme Manager at the Cité internationale des arts, assisted by Simona Dvorák.
Jayne Christian is a Baramadagal woman of the Reid/Goldspink family belonging to the Dharug Nation. Jayne chairs the Parramatta City Council First Nations Advisory Group and is an Ambassador for the Treaty Council. She belongs to the weaving communities in both Wagga Wagga and Western Sydney, is a member of Parramatta Weaving Garden Collective and practices traditional and contemporary styles of weaving and bush dying. She uses weaving as a cultural practitioner to maintain a strong Dharug presence, contribute to the process of truth-telling of this place, now known as Sydney and encourage conversations around decoloniality. Jayne is hosting a weaving circle for the discovery of the weaving practice as a way to create new bonds within the community. She is currently in residency at the Cité internationale des arts.
