Look at me

© Admir Batlak

Admir Batlak’s practice is rooted in textile, with a strong focus on craftsmanship. His work draws from diverse techniques and references spanning fashion, history, social movements, and popular culture to examine contemporary aesthetics, taste, and identity.

For this exhibition, he presents a selection of recent works. Using a technique that can be described as a ‘digital quilt,’ images are printed directly onto wadding—typically the middle layer of quilts—blurring the boundaries between photography, textile, and painting. Abstracted architectural and natural motifs, including Batlak’s own textile compositions, are fused into the porous, absorbent material, further dissolving their forms.

Admir Batlak takes inspiration from Yugoslav monuments and explores notions of site specificity. Images of his immediate surroundings blend with views from his birthplace, Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The resulting compositions, altered through digital painting, evoke a shifting landscape that open new thoughts on monumentality and materiality.

Also on view is an ongoing series of sculptural ornaments, in which sequins are ‘welded’ into shape using a steam iron, expanding his investigation into surface and structure.

Admir Batlak (Norway) is in residency with the support of the Ingrid Lindbäck Langaard Foundation
