Shtëpi

Residency programme for visual artists living and working in Kosovo.

The programme

The National Gallery of Kosovo and the Cité internationale des arts (Paris) are pleased to announce the launch of Shtëpi, a new residency programme for artists of all disciplines living and working in Kosovo. This programme aims to foster international mobility, broaden professional and artistic networks, and strengthen artistic practices through dedicated support in research, production, and visibility.

Three artists will be selected through an open call and reviewed by a jury composed of professionals from the fields of contemporary art and culture. The laureates will first present their work in a group exhibition at NGK–QAFA (December 2025 – February 2026), followed by a fully funded three-month residency in Paris in late 2026, including tailored professional support and networking opportunities with artists and art professionals based in France.

The National Gallery of Kosova (NGK)

The National Gallery of Kosova, founded in 1979, is the country’s leading institution dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Its mission is to support artistic production, foster critical discourse, and provide a platform for both emerging and established artists from Kosovo and beyond. Through rotating exhibitions, public programmes, and publishing initiatives, the Gallery engages diverse audiences and plays a vital role in shaping the cultural landscape of the region.
The institution holds a collection of more than 1,200 works, including painting, graphics, sculpture, and mixed media. Located in central Prishtina, between the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Architecture, its low-slung building functions as a site of exchange between art, education, and public space.

In 2025, the Gallery expanded with the opening of the National Gallery of Kosova QAFA, a secondary venue conceived as an experimental platform for contemporary art. QAFA focuses on supporting emerging artists, commissioning new works, and organizing first solo exhibitions, while also encouraging avant-garde practices.

In recent years, the Gallery has broadened its curatorial vision, increasingly hosting regional and international artists while remaining firmly committed to nurturing the local scene. It also serves as the commissioning institution of the Pavilion of the Republic of Kosovo at La Biennale di Venezia, both for the International Art and Architecture Exhibitions.
