Présentation

‘Baya’ is a programme comprising various creative and research residencies aimed at Algerian artists working and living in Algeria. Their practices span the fields of visual arts, writing, music, choreography, design, architecture and exhibition curating.

Baya aims to promote their mobility and expand their professional and artistic networks. It offers eleven artists a three-month funded residency that can take place:

  • in Paris,
  • between Paris and Marseille,
  • between Paris and Cassis.

This programme is run by the Cité internationale des arts (Paris) and co-organised with the Institut français d’Algérie, SACEM, the Camargo Foundation (Cassis), La Friche la Belle de Mai (Marseille), AM.I (Marseille), Triangle-Astérides (Marseille) and Fraeme (Marseille). It is supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Institut français d’Algérie.

They will benefit from:

  • Support, meetings and networking opportunities organised by the residency programme partners;
    The provision of living and working space in each host organisation;
    A monthly living allowance;
    Assistance with creative research;
    Coverage of international transport costs between Algeria and Paris, visa and travel insurance costs, as well as travel within France (including travel to and from Marseille and Cassis for the residencies concerned).

Once they arrive at the residency, the artists are supported by the host organisation, which is available to ensure that their projects run smoothly. The programme partners monitor the residency to ensure continuity throughout. Once the residency is over, the artists are required to complete a feedback questionnaire.

The Camargo Foundation will provide each resident with an individual, furnished, and equipped apartment.

The campus also offers many outdoor spaces, with an outdoor theater, and its gardens including an aromatic garden available to residents. The foundation often hosts residents from different programs at the same time.

The foundation does not provide art materials or technical equipment. All apartments have fully equipped kitchens so that residents can prepare their own meals.

Only one apartment is accessible to people with disabilities, and the site (including the interior and exterior common areas) unfortunately does not meet current standards for accessibility for people with disabilities.
