Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Visual arts

Oscar Debs was born in Tripoli, El-Mina and keeps returning to it in various forms.

He is a film, video and multidisciplinary artist, and a writer. The media he employs almost always invoke moving images, extracted along the arc produced between 2 carbon torches of a motion picture projector.

He holds a Master in Fine Arts and has been in the following art residencies: Ashkal Alwan’s HomeWorks Program 2016-2017, Beirut; Art Omi Artists Residency, summer 2023; and Cité internationale des arts, May-July 2024.
His ongoing film on the ruined cinema theaters of El-Mina has been exhibited at Kunstnernes Hus Kino, Oslo, within the National Autumn Exhibition of 2021.

In 2023, he was granted Eidfjord Municipality’s yearly stipend, for a solo exhibition and a residency there.

Debs is also a film curator at Cinemateket Trondheim, since December 2022, winner of the Norwegian Cultural Directory’s Aspirantordningen fund in the same year.
