Sabine Delcour, a French photographer, studied fine arts and photography at Paris 8 University. In 1994, her first series, Transport, which won an award from the Centre National de la Photographie, examined the processes of urban transformation in Seine-Saint-Denis. She devised an itinerary using old tourist guides, which she read to choose locations to photograph with an old folding travel camera. Each image is overlaid with a description of the site depicted, taken from one of the guides. The text of yesterday and the image of today intertwine, producing a kind of journey through time in a region that does not encourage tourism. She then embarked on a process in which she used the landscape as a field of exploration and photographic research.

Since then, she has been exploring urban, natural and wild spaces, producing a body of work that takes us on a paradoxical journey beyond the frame. She explores the world as a high-tension laboratory for the future of our civilisations. An intimate and sensitive fiction in which she tirelessly questions the notion of place and man’s relationship with his environment. Between 2018 and 2020, she carried out a project entitled New Way of Living, situated at the crossroads of contemporary social, environmental and societal issues. From the ghost town of Ordos to the port city of Qingdao, via Wuhan, she sets up a device inspired by the observation of wildlife to question the way we build cities and inhabit the world. Large-format silver-gelatin prints of vertical Chinese urbanity are juxtaposed with telephoto photographs taken in digitised, ultra-connected cities that enable the identification, control and evaluation of individuals. Could this be the prelude to a profound transformation of our societies?

She continues her research through creative residencies, grants and public commissions. She exhibits regularly in France and abroad (Three Shadows Xiamen Photography Art Centre in China, Le Bel Ordinaire in Billère, Le Château d’Eau in Toulouse, the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris, the Lianzhou International Photo Festival in China, the Galerie des Multiples in Paris, the Artothèque de Vitré, the Yokohama Museum of Art in Japan, the Centre photographique de Lectoure, etc.) and participates in seminars, conferences and workshops. Her work has been published in numerous catalogues, including La fabrique photographique des paysages, Éditions Hermann, and Paysages Français, une aventure photographique (1984-2017), BNF Éditions.
