Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Tevaite Denk- Senni

Year/s of residence : 2022, High Commission of the French Republic in French Polynesia

Visual arts

Tevaite Denk-Senni was born in 1984 in Papeete, Tahiti to a French mother and an American father. From an early age, creation has been a part of her life, drawing, painting and creating objects. Tevaite grew up in Huahine, a small island in the Pacific Ocean.  She had the great privilege of meeting and working with the famous Polynesian artist Bobby Holcomb who had a profound impact on her despite her young age and who will remain a model in her artistic development.

In 1998, she passed a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and then continued her studies to become a teacher. In 2016, after several years of teaching in high school, Tevaite Denk-Senni made the decision to dedicate herself entirely to her art. Her painting combines several techniques, with the artist drawing inspiration from early Polynesian art for the graphic aspect, and the beauty of the surrounding nature for her color palette. She describes her paintings as “well-being paintings”, because the act of creation allows her to feel in total harmony with the world and brings her a deep joy that she wishes to share.

Visual arts

Nolan Oswald Dennis was born in 1988 in Lusaka, Zambia. They live and work in Johannesburg. Their practice explores ‘a black consciousness of space’ the material and metaphysical conditions of decolonisation – questioning histories of space and time through system-specific interventions.

They work within and against a grammar of world-making: using indexical, analytic and educational devices (drawings, diagrams, maps, models, etc) as ambiguous tools for rehearsing possible meanings rather than forms of instruction. Their work has been featured in group exhibitions at the Young Congo Biennale (Democratic Republic of Congo, 2019); Palais de Tokyo (France, 2021); FRONT triennial, (United-States, 2022); Van Abbemuseum (Netherlands, 2023); the Shanghai Biennial (China, 2023), Liverpool Biennial (United-Kingdom, 2023) and the Lagos Biennial (Nigeria, 2024).

Caroline Déodat

Year/s of residence : 2022, 2026, Fondation Daniel et Nina Carasso, Art Explora

Visual arts

Caroline Déodat is an artist and researcher. She has a doctorate in anthropology from the EHESS and was trained at the École des Beaux-Arts de Lyon in the Art post-graduate program.

Through films and installations, she explores the spectral dimensions of the moving image in a circulation between fiction and experimental ethnography. From her obsessions with processes of archiving and alienation, history and myths of violence, she seeks ways to recompose histories and weave silenced genealogies through the convocation of haunted memories, deferred archives and oral images.

Her work has been shown at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, in international festivals, and soon at the Lyon Biennial of Contemporary Art and at the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation in Turin.
